Unfortunately I feel we live in a time where people often dream of all the things that they want in life but negate the hard work, sweat, and tears it MAY take to get there. As a senior teacher, I hear my students talk about their dreams after high school. They often talk about starting businesses, beginning Youtube channels , or entering the workforce in hopes of pulling in lots of money. However, in that same breath when asked about how they plan to get to achieve their dreams, they often look dumbfounded at my question.
We have failed as educators, and parents because we tell our children that they can do and be anything but don’t tell them the amount of work it will take to get there. My students are often afraid of failure so they oftentimes won’t even try if they feel that the chance of them failing is high. Every successful person at some point has failed and we are no different. Success often takes hard work because it teaches us discipline at what it will actually take to BE and STAY successful and allows us to truly be grateful for the process.
If I didn’t struggle, I wouldn’t be as thankful for where I am today because I remember where I used to be. I used to be the person that would complain about my weight, but would continually stuff my face with French fries, burgers, and pizza. You will get to the breaking point where you realize that the main reason why you are not where you want to be is because of YOU!
Ask yourself are you doing something every day that is pushing you closer to your dreams and goals. If the answer is NO, you need to become more intentional on how you spend your time each and every day. If the answer is YES, are you putting your best foot forward into making sure that things work out in the way that you want them to? Life is too short to sit in on your dreams because you are the ONLY one that can make them happen. If FEAR, is what is keeping your from following your dreams, just think about all the people who have died with their potential still left in them. Do you want that to be you? Are you willing to not give yourself the best chance at living the life you dream of? Its 2020, the beginning of a new decade, the time to start on what you want to do is NOW. Not tomorrow, not next week, or next month. If you truly want something bad enough you will FIGHT for it because of its ability to ENHANCE your life. What is truly stopping you from chasing your dreams? What do you believe that it will take for you to achieve your dreams?
